The cross-examination of a Hawks officer in the trial against alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack, is set to continue in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday.
Evidence presented by the officer in court includes cellphone extraction reports and financial audits related to the 124 charges Modack and his 14 co-accused face.
Hawks officer Edward du Plessis was ready to be cross-examined by attorneys representing Modack and his co-accused on Monday.
Du Plessis had previously presented evidence of a company, Empire Investment Cars, which Modack was allegedly using to pay some of the accused to commit crimes.
The publication understands court proceedings were delayed on Monday after it came to light that one of the attorneys representing two of the accused on trial was allegedly paid from the same company’s bank account.
Judge Robert Henney postponed proceedings on Monday, to allow the attorney to seek counsel before the matter proceeds on Wednesday.
