Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the bribery of high-ranking police officers Jeremy Vearey and Charl Kinnear.
Modack along with 14 other co-accused appeared in the Western Cape High Court for a fifth day.
He faces 124 charges related to racketeering and murder – including the assassination of Kinnear in September 2020.
On Monday, Modack – who has previously told the court he did not kill Kinnear – insisted he had nothing to do with bribing the top cop and his boss, Major General Vearey.
“I therefore charge accused one of being guilty of corruption. Accused one? Not guilty.”
Last week, the court heard how Modack allegedly employed the services of a middleman to develop a corrupt relationship with Vearey and Kinnear.
The State’s indictment against Modack reveals that Vearey and Kinnear seized firearms and ammunition from Modack during an anti-gang unit raid in April 2017.
The State alleges Modack then employed a middleman to bribe both Vearey and Kinnear to return the weapons.
The case has been postponed to Monday 12 February.
