Nadia Nakai Talks Growth and Authenticity in ‘Beyond Bragga’ Season 2

The new season promises to offer fans an intimate look at Nadia Nakai’s life, blending authenticity, personal growth, and candid adventures beyond the glamour often associated with celebrity life. Following the success of the first season, Nadia Nakai said she is eager to share a deeper, more evolved version of herself with viewers.

“It feels good to be back,” Nadia Nakai told reporters. “In season one, I was in a different phase and era of my healing. Now, in season two, I’ve come more into myself—I’m a little lighter and happier. I have new ventures, and my family is more involved this season. In season one, I threw them in the deep end, and it was hard for them to be themselves on camera, but now I’ve really seen them blossom.”

Nadia Nakai revealed that even her younger cousin and her aunt have opened up on camera, offering fans a rare glimpse into her family life. “It’s going to be really exciting to watch,” she added.

Unlike her experience on Young, Famous & African, where she was one among eight cast members, Nakai described having her own show as a more personal and authentic space. “With my own show, it’s a universe that already exists. It feels more natural, more me, more authentic. I can really show what goes into being Nadia, being Bragga—hence the name Beyond Bragga. It goes beyond the persona that everybody sees,” she explained.

This season, Nadia Nakai plans to explore not just her own journey but also those of her family members, highlighting the intertwining of their stories and challenges with her own life. “Now it’s about my ecosystem, the issues they’re dealing with, their journeys, and how that intertwines with mine,” she said.

Reflecting on her career and the show’s success, Nadia Nakaiacknowledged the presence of imposter syndrome in her life. “There is always a level of imposter syndrome in everything I do. I’m working on it, but it also keeps me grounded and grateful for everything that happens. In this industry, you always have to allow space for disappointment, which is difficult to manage,” she admitted.

Mental health remains a recurring theme for Nadia Nakai, who plans to touch on therapy in the upcoming season. “Therapy keeps coming up in conversations with friends, family, and management. I don’t want to reveal too much yet, as it will be unpacked on the show, including my thought process and feelings about therapy,” she said.

The rapper also opened up about her professional relationships. “I love that my team is women-driven, strong, and powerful. We’ve accomplished amazing things, but I’ve learned that I can be difficult to work with. I feel like I’m easy-going, but my manager says people are scared of me. Viewers will see that unravel this season as well,” Nadia Nakai revealed.

With full control over the show’s final edit alongside her manager, Nakai expressed satisfaction with the level of authenticity captured on screen. “We review the episodes and approve them, and because I aim to be as authentic as possible, I haven’t found the need to cut anything. I’m moving into my truth and don’t feel the need to hide. I think many reality shows exist, but the ones I resonate with most are honest and authentic. My show reflects that.”

She added that viewers can expect raw honesty and unfiltered moments. “I don’t have barriers or protection. I’m just being myself. People love realness, and that’s what they’ll get with Beyond Bragga. Sometimes I might be too honest, but that’s what makes good reality TV. They’ll see me in all my flaws, but it’s true to who I am,” Nakai said.

The new season promises to reveal a more personal, reflective, and engaging side of the South African rapper, giving fans a chance to connect with her life, her family, and her creative journey in ways that extend beyond her music and public persona.

Beyond Bragga season two premieres on BET Africa (DStv Channel 129) on September 6 at 7 p.m., offering viewers a candid exploration of Nadia Nakai’s world—beyond the spotlight, beyond the persona, and beyond Bragga.
