VIP protection officers accused of N1 assault granted bail

Eight VIP Protection Unit officers have been granted bail of R10,000 each.

They were arrested after a video of them allegedly assaulting motorists on the N1 highway went viral.

The men face charges of assault, damage to property, and pointing of a firearm.

The case has been postponed to 27 September for further investigations.

Meanwhile, Deputy President Paul Mashatile insists he was nowhere near the scene of the alleged crime.
