Mzansi celebs who are nothing like their on-screen characters

They say that “a great actor is an empty vessel into which a character can be inserted” and for many of South Africa’s most gifted on-screen talents, this saying bodes true
We’re constantly amazed by our film and television industry, but today we want to pay homage to a specific group of actors: those who truly transform into different people on screen.
These talented thespians are able to abandon their real-life personalities and take on the characteristics of a foreign human on screen – all for the love of acting and all for our entertainment.
We salute these phenomenal actors – both legendary and newcomers!
Robert Whitehead
For years we got to fear and loathe Barker Haines on Isidingo. Those who watched Sarafina will also have grown to dislike Robert’s character in the movie too.
Fezile Makhanya
Fezile played the role of the abusive Tebogo on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen and we hated every second of his on-screen antics. Tebogo embodied toxic masculinity and would regularly beat up his wife.
Thankfully, Fezile is nothing like this in real life. He used his storyline as an opportunity to educate viewers on abuse.
Mduduzi Mabaso
Mduduzi is usually cast as a slick, smooth-talking pretty boy from the hood and while he relates to some of his characters, his real life personality is much more withdrawn.
The actor, who plays Suffocate on Rhythm City admits that many men fear that he’ll steal their girlfriends because of his antics on the show.
Sindi Dlathu
Another leading lady who takes on a villainous role is the talented Sindi Dlathu.
She’s one of South Africa’s most loved actresses at the moment but, for 30 minutes a night, she has us frustrated by her antics on The River where she plays the role of the untrustworthy Lindiwe.
Lorcia Cooper
Lorcia Cooper was so tired of being typecast that she flipped the script herself. The result is as far removed a character as we’ve ever seen her play.
Lorcia plays the role of Tyson in dramatic series, Lockdown, a bad and bruised prisoner with an even tougher to swallow storyline.
