Mzansi celebs who are being shamed for shopping at regular stores

Three of Mzansi’s biggest TV stars all took to Twitter to share their experiences of being judged for shopping at ‘regular’ stores despite their celebrity status
Gabisile Tshabalala, Kgomotso Christopher and Pasi Koetle took a moment to relate to the stares and judgement they often receive when they are spotted shopping at stores and malls that non celebrities have access to.

For some reason, there’s a belief in South Africa that famous people have to shop at places that are beyond reach and beyond our usual budgets. Gabisile wasted no time in busting this myth when she revealed that just because she is an actor on screen that shouldn’t mean that she has to continue keeping up appearances in real life.

Little did she know that other on-screen personalities would relate to her when she said, I don’t ever wanna live a lie. My acting should stop on screen.
I won’t act rich when I’m not just to impress people who don’t even know me, so don’t be surprised if u see me in a taxi, or pep, or komachineng. I’m living MY life

Scandal! star, Pasi Koetle chimed in by sharing a recent experience where she received awkward looks from a complete stranger who didn’t approve of her decision to shop at Pep Stores – despite the fact that she appears on television every single weekday.

Before long, another actress joined in on the fun by claiming that she had been judged by an employee at Ackermans who went on to request a selfie.

When given the opportunity to suggest why she (and other TV stars) are subjected to this kind of scrutiny, Kgomotso admitted that some ‘famous’ people simply don’t subscribe to the ‘celebrity’ status that we often place on them.

Do you agree with Kgomotso, Pasi and Gabisile that celebrities should be allowed to shop wherever they want without judgement?

Or should they be excluded from ‘common’ shopping spaces and stick to the high-brow name brand stores we expect them to shop at?
