For the longest time, gap-toothed celebrities have had to endure the mockery from industry “gatekeepers and rule-makers” and some trolls in the public. The vintage era of the fashion industry was known for making a mountain out of a mole regarding any physical features that seem “odd” in a celebrity.
One is reminded of a bizarre makeover scene from America’s modelling competition TV show, America’s Next Top Model. During season six, the title winner, Danielle Evans was advised to slightly close her gap, because it wasn’t a good look for her, especially photographically.
The aspiring model actually took up the offer and has never looked back ever since. Danielle is still booked and busy – she remains one of the in-demand models to date. Fast forward to 2019, those “weird’ physical features are hardly ever looked down upon.
The evolving fashion industry and just the entertainment industry as a whole is becoming more accepting of all forms of beauty! In South Africa, critics aren’t as lethal as our American counterparts. Mzansi is blessed with quite a number of celebrities who are confident in their gaps.
