Two in court for the murder of Adnaan Davids
Two men have been arrested for the murder of a 29-year-old openly gay man, Adnaan Davids. Davids was found stabbed to death near a railway station in Athlone in the Western Cape last Tuesday.
He was killed two days after the Pride festival was held in Cape Town. Davids’ family is convinced his murder was a hate crime as he was stabbed more than 25 times and had often received threats.
Community members of Bokmakierie and Manenberg say he liked to help the elderly and was beloved in both neighbourhoods and members of the LGBTI+ community arrived at the Athlone magistrate’s court to support his family.
Two men aged 24 and 35 were arrested for his murder on Sunday. They still have to appear in court.
Davids’ brutal murder came after the gang rape of a gay woman in Grassy Park the weekend before.
