MTN grows subscriber base by 7%

MTN South Africa grew its subscriber base by 7.1 percent at the end of March to reach 34.5 million subscribers. It’s seen good performance in both prepaid and contracts.

The network operator says it also saw a group double-digit service revenue growth despite a challenging macro-economic environment.

The company says power cuts in South Africa have impacted network availability. As a result, it has had to increase investment in batteries ahead of the winter period as it anticipates that the risk of power cuts may remain high.
