Correctional Services to investigate Mthatha prison fight

Correctional Services is probing a deadly brawl at the Mthatha Correctional Centre.

One inmate died and an official and another inmate are in hospital with serious stab wounds.

Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the police have also been called in.

“An investigation has been launched because we want to get to the bottom of this and fully understand the circumstances under which the whole thing was planned and executed so that we can talk on a position of conviction to say that indeed this is what was planned with these particular motives,” he said.

“So at this stage, one would be speculating hence we are saying let us launch an investigation.”
