CONTROVERSIAL maskandi star Mthandeni Manqele wants an apology from SABC1 or threatens that something bad will happen.
This after the public broadcaster repeated the second episode of his reality show, Ushuni kaMaskandi, instead of airing the third episode on Saturday, 9 October.
Although SABC1 corrected its mistake after a couple of minutes and aired the third episode, Mthandeni was not happy.
He posted on Facebook: “SABC1 kumele axolise very fast, ngoba uma kungenjalo kuyanyiwa angilona ididi mina (SABC must apologise very fast otherwise something will happen. I’m not an a**”.
Mthandeni told Daily Sun he won’t tolerate disrespect from the SABC, and they could even stop airing his show if they wanted to do so.
“Before the show started, I reminded people to watch it as I was busy with other gigs. When the show started, my phone was flooded with calls from people telling me an old episode was aired.
“I thought maybe the SABC was recapping scenes from the last episode. But when calls continued to flood my phone for about 10 minutes, I realised the SABC is airing an old episode.”
He said although the broadcaster corrected its mistake, it owed him and the viewers an apology.
“I was so angry when they made this mistake. That’s why I rushed to my Facebook page to order the SABC to apologise.
“I don’t hide it when I’m angry. I don’t pretend because I don’t live a fake life. What made me angrier is this was not the first time the SABC made a mistake on my show.
“Last Saturday, they wrote a maskandi reality show instead of Ushuni kaMaskandi.I confronted them and they apologised,” he said.
Mthandeni said he shot his reality show with his own money and the SABC must not make mistakes.
“I own all copyrights and the SABC must air the show properly because it’s making maskandi music history. The show is to reveal the truth about how I was sabotaged in the industry and painted as a bad person,” he said.
SABC group executive for corporate affairs and marketing, Gugu Ntuli, said there was an error on the electronic programme guide, which was promptly updated.
“SABC1 would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” said Ntuli.
