Court lifts order barring identification of Mrwetyana murder-accused

Luyanda Botha, the man accused of the rape and murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana, is allowed to be named and photographed after a period of anonymity.
Magistrate Goolam Bawa allowed for him to be named and photographed.
He faces two counts of rape, one charge of murder, and one of defeating the ends of justice.
Botha will not be applying for bail.
The National Prosecuting Authority says the trial will begin on 15 November.
Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Rodney de Kock has been assigned to the case.
“We’ve indicated the postponement is to give the defense the opportunity to take proper instructions from the accused regarding this matter,” said De Kock.
