Mourners bid farewell to teen Palestinian killed by Israeli forces

Mourners carried the body of a 13-year-old Palestinian who was killed by Israeli forces on Tuesday near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, official Palestinian media reported. The 13-year-old, Ghassan Zahran, was shot and wounded by Israeli forces in the town of Deir Abu Mash’al and transferred to the Palestinian Medical Complex in Ramallah where he succumbed to his wounds shortly after, said the Palestinian health ministry.

The official Palestinian WAFA news agency reported that Israeli forces opened fire on a number of children, by a settler road that is adjacent to the town of Deir Abu Mash’al, where they critically wounded Zahran who was hit in the abdomen. An Israeli army statement said that “terrorists” had hurled rocks at Israeli vehicles adjacent to the area of Deir Abu Masha’al.

Israeli security forces at the scene responded by firing toward them. As a result, one was hit. Violence has surged in the occupied West Bank since Israel began bombarding the Gaza Strip and clashing with Hezbollah at the Lebanon border, fuelling concerns that the flashpoint Palestinian territory could become a third front in a wider war.
