Motorist killed after slamming into bridge

KwaZulu-Natal: At 08H38 Monday morning, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the M4 Northbound, under the Lighthouse Road Bridge in Umhlanga, Durban.

Reports indicate that the driver of an SUV lost control, slamming into a bridge pillar. When medics arrived on the scene they found the patient, an adult male in his late thirties in a critical condition, trapped inside the wreckage.

With the help of the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services, the patient was extricated using specialised hydraulic tools, while emergency care practitioners from Netcare 911 and Emer-G-Med treated the patient.

Despite a full advanced life support resuscitation the patient’s condition rapidly deteriorated and he was sadly declared deceased on the scene. The incident area was cordoned off and handed over to the Durban North SAPS.
