JMPD suspends officers who worked at site where EFF’s Moshe Mphahlele was killed

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers who were working at a site where Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor Moshe Mphahlele was killed have been suspended.
Mphahlele was shot and killed on Sunday when the officers allegedly dispersed protesting community members in Alexandra.
It’s understood the protesters were attempting to invade unoccupied government shelters.
Community Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku said they are investigating if the councillor was shot by officers or private security guards.
“All those individuals that are suspended, they will hand over their firearms to IPID [Independent Police Investigative Directorate] for ballistics testing because we need to check where the shots came from because the statement that has been put in is that the community fired shots at the police but the question we asked is there are no casualties being seen on both the private security and the JMPD.”
