Missing Free State Cops Found Dead in Hennops River as Search for Vehicle Continues

JOHANNESBURG – The investigation into the tragic deaths of three missing Free State cops has taken a grim turn, as their bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion. However, police say they are still unable to determine whether the incident was accidental until the vehicle they were travelling in is found.
On Monday, the bodies of Constables Boipelo Senoge and Cebekhulu Linda were discovered in the river. The following day, search teams recovered the body of their colleague, Constable Keamogetswe Buys.
The three officers were reported missing while travelling from the Free State to Limpopo in a white VW Polo, which remains unaccounted for. Police say the recovery of the vehicle is crucial to understanding the circumstances of their deaths.
3 Missing Free State Cops + 2 More Bodies
Between Monday and Tuesday, a total of five bodies were pulled from the Hennops River. Three of them were positively identified as the missing Free State cops, bringing an emotional end to the search for the officers.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola addressed the media, emphasising that the deaths cannot yet be classified as accidental.
“At this stage, it may seem like an accident, but until we recover the vehicle, we cannot draw any final conclusions,” he said.
Police were led to the river after tracing CCTV footage from the highway.
“We checked surveillance cameras along the route. The last sighting of the vehicle was at the Brakfontein interchange on the N1, heading north,” Masemola added.
Families of the three officers were brought from the Free State to Gauteng on Tuesday to identify the bodies.
Authorities continue to search for the missing vehicle as investigations into what happened to the missing Free State cops remain underway.
