Health Minister Phaahla says 90% of hospitals still operational following KZN floods

Health Minister Joe Phaahla says damage to health facilities in KwaZulu-Natal is not as bad as expected.

Over 80 health facilities were damaged by floods.

It’s estimated it will cost almost R200-million to repair.

The minister says about 90 percent of damaged facilities will still be able to operate partially.

“Fortunately in eThekwini, only one major facility was totally closed. Others can be fixed while operating,” Phaahla said.

Most will be fixed while operating but not at full capacity. 90% of them will be fixed while providing service.”
