Minister Fikile Mbalula confirms licensing card machine repaired

South African motorists can breathe a sigh of relief. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says the country’s only licensing card machine is finally working again.
Mbalula visited the Driving Licence Card Account facility in Gauteng and assured South Africans that staff are working day and night in order to deliver new licences.
The card machine broke down late last year and had to be sent to Germany to be repaired. It caused a massive backlog as the department could not renew and issue new driving licenses.
The department also granted motorists an extension until the end of March to renew their licences.
