Municipalities forfeit millions of rand to Treasury
Municipalities don’t spend grants as a result of planning, contract delays, and implementation processes taking too long.
That’s according to Deputy Director General for Public Finance at Treasury, Dr Mampho Modise.
This comes as municipalities and government departments are having to surrender hundreds of millions of rand to the Treasury after failing to spend the funds.
In the previous financial year alone, municipalities failed to spend close to R1-billion allocated for conditional grants.
