Medical Schemes Council requests medical aid increases be kept at below 5%

The Council for Medical Schemes has requested that increases to contributions for 2024 be kept at 5 percent or less.

The registrar, Dr Sipho Kabane says the council wants address private health costs, which are too high and are often an barrier for people to join medical schemes.

But medical aid schemes can still submit a proposal for a higher increase.

Kabane says they have noted with concern the decreasing number of South Africans In addition, that this could place a bigger burden on the already strained public health sector.
