Finance Minister Tito Mboweni to unpack relief packages on Wednesday

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, will on Wednesday, unpack the relief packages announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The relief packages are to help businesses and individuals recover from a week of civil unrest and the impact of COVID-19. Mboweni is expected to speak about reinstating the monthly welfare grant of R350 until the end of March 2022.

He is also expected to talk about the R400 million state contribution to a humanitarian relief fund and support for uninsured businesses impacted by the riots.

Other issues will include the deferment of Pay-As-You-Earn taxes for three months to provide businesses with additional cash flow. As well as the deferment of the payment of excise taxes for the battered alcohol sector for three months to ease the burden on the sector as it recovers.
