According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday in the Sandown Road parking area in Tableview. Witnesses described a white vehicle pulling up near the victim’s Porsche before a group of armed suspects opened fire. Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects
Authorities have launched an urgent manhunt for the suspects involved in the shooting.
Mauritian national shot dead
“Serious and Violent Crime detectives are hard at work pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the death of an adult male,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
“Reports suggest that unknown gunmen opened fire on the occupant of a motor vehicle in a parking area in Sandown Road, Tableview. The 55-year-old Mauritian foreign national did not survive this onslaught on his life. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
A Contract Killing?
While the exact motive remains under investigation, police suspect that the attack was a contract killing (hit).
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in tracking down the killers.
“Any person who can shed light on the circumstances surrounding this incident is kindly requested to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile application to submit anonymous tips,” Swartbooi added.
Cape Town’s Growing Concerns Over Targeted Killings
The targeted assassination of the Mauritian national has raised alarms over the increasing number of organized hits in Cape Town. Criminal syndicates and gang-related activity have been linked to similar executions in recent years, making the city a hotspot for contract killings and violent crime.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the victim was involved in any high-risk business activities or if he had known enemies.
Soshanguve Attack: Death Toll Rises to Five
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed that a fifth person has died following an attack in Soshanguve’s Marry Me Informal Settlement.
The attack, which occurred on Saturday morning, initially claimed the lives of four community patrollers, with a fifth victim succumbing to injuries in hospital on Sunday.
Premier Lesufi, who visited the families of the deceased, expressed his grief and pledged support in finding those responsible.
“I cry with you, I am with you. I will work with the police to find out what happened and who did what they did,” Lesufi told community members.
The brutal attack also left seven additional victims fighting for their lives in hospital.
Police Given 72 Hours to Arrest Suspects
Lesufi has placed immense pressure on law enforcement, giving police 72 hours to apprehend those responsible for the Soshanguve killings.
“We need swift action. These criminals must be found and arrested before more lives are lost,” he said.
Rising Crime Concerns Across South Africa
The incidents in both Cape Town and Soshanguve highlight the rising levels of violent crime in South Africa. From organized hits to brutal community killings, law enforcement faces mounting pressure to curb these senseless acts of violence.
As investigations into both cases continue, residents remain on edge, hoping for justice and urgent intervention to restore safety in their communities.
