2021 Matric pass rate at 76.4%

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric class of 2021 overall pass rate stands at 76.4 percent.
Minister of Basic Education and Training, Angie Motshekga, says this is an improvement of 0.2 percent from 2020.
The Free state is once again the leading province in matric results.
It obtained an 85.7 percent pass rate, an improvement of 0.6 percent from 2020.
The province takes the first spot for the third time.
Gauteng scored an 82.8 percent pass rate, down 1.0 percent from 2020.
The Western Cape scored 81.2 percent, an improvement of 1.3 percent from 2020.
There are still several challenges faced by schools countrywide particularly in poor and rural areas.
But Motshekga says the government’s interventions are helping to improve the situation.
The matric class of 2021 faced many challenges, including the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Motshekga: there is no doubt that the system has begun to reach the desired stability.
