Manhunt underway for escaped prisoners in Pietermaritzburg

Specialised police units are still searching for 18 escapees in Pietermaritzburg. They were among a group of 31 that made a break for it when the truck carrying them to court was attacked on Wednesday. Police say they will continue searching for the prisoners who are still on the run.

Officers say 5 heavily armed men confronted them, forcing them to open the back of the truck. 31 managed to escape, but 9 were recaptured shortly afterwards. Police say they will continue searching for the 22 still on the run, as well as the gunmen.
