Ex-City of Cape Town MMC Malusi Booi and 8 co-accused due back in court for tender fraud case

Former Cape Town Mayco member for human settlements, Malusi Booi, and eight co-accused are back at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

One of Booi’s co-accused, believed to be Abdul Kader Davids, was shot and killed in Beacon Valley in Mitchells Plain two days after posting bail of R250,000 in September.

Booi and others are also out on bail of between R25,000 and R250,000.

They are accused of being involved in construction tender fraud worth a billion rand.

On Wednesday, the State is expected to add alleged 28’s gang boss, Ralph Stanfield, and his wife, Nicole Johnson, to the indictment.

The State alleges that all the accused in the matter were part of a criminal enterprise headed by the couple.

It’s alleged that during his tenure as the head of the human settlements directorate, Booi influenced tender outcomes in favour of Johnson’s company, Glomix House.

The State alleges that Booi received kickbacks of more than R4 million from the couple for his alleged involvement in the corruption.
