Gauteng Premier David Makhura says access to education and health are defining features of human civilisation.
Makhura was giving clarity about National Health Insurance (NHI) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Tuesday.
He says NHI will assist South Africans based on their healthcare needs, and not their level of income.
“Whether a society really cares or not, it’s whether that society is able, on the basis of whether you are sick, to provide access to healthcare and not based on your level of income”, said Makhura.
The NHI is proposed to benefit all South African residents, residents, refugees, inmates designated foreign nationals and children.
