I received an Interesting email that I thought I should share with the rest of our readers. The author who refused to be named titled the post – Magoshas makes millions… Below is his story.
The word Magosha is somewhat associated with dirty people who are not educated. But is it always the case? With the high unemployment rate in South Africa most women and even men have turned to this trade to make a buck.
They do this in the name of looking for money and most of them have various reasons as to why they do it. But to some, it’s no longer a means for survival but a source for money to support their flashy lifestyle.
Last week I got invited to a party and there I met this interesting group of people who dress in fancy designer clothes and drive expensive cars. One of the ladies was even driving the new BMW 3 series. As curious as I was as to how they make their money, I was eventually told that they are a group of modern-day Magoshas.
They don’t just hook up with any Tom, Jack and Harry but they have their elite clients who pay around R10000 per session. A session is mostly an hour and I don’t think there is a CEO who earns that much.
So looking at this, the word Magosha has evolved. From what I saw these people (men and women) have far better lives than most people who have 9 to 5 jobs. Magoshas are no longer the R5 per pop that we wrote about a while back but it’s now a sophisticated business that’s racking in millions (tax-free).
The internet and social media have made it easy for this trade to become a Million Rand Empire as marketing has become easier. I asked one of the ladies how they meet their clients and she explained to me that referrals were the only way. She further explained how she used to advertise on Instagram and Facebook. “I even owned a website at one point, but nothing beats referrals” She added.
I was never that good at Maths but if she charges R10000 per hour and gets 10 clients per week that alone gives her R100K. By default, these Magoshas are making Millions of Rands. Up to now, I find it hard to believe that people would pay so much to have a good time. But then their lifestyles reflect that these ladies and gents are making millions…
