The victims of the Lusikisiki massacre in the Eastern Cape will on Sunday be remembered in a mass memorial service.
The relatives were shot and killed last weekend in two separate homes while preparing to attend a tombstone unveiling for their two relatives who were shot and killed a year ago.
Police said investigations into the motive of the killings were still continuing, with possible leads.
The Eastern Cape government will host the mass memorial service for the 18 slain relatives.
This comes as the provincial government can no longer proceed with a mass funeral, as some of the families have opted to have private ceremonies.
Many are set to gather at the Lusikisiki College to pay tribute to the 16 women and two men killed execution-style.
On Tuesday, the police revealed they already had a person of interest in custody for questioning.
Minister Senzo Mchunu said: “When the national commissioner says they know who they are looking for, he means it, and you will be updated. But indeed, after an incident like this, we must know who we are looking for.”
The police ministry and top brass officials are expected to form part of Sunday’s programme.
Many are expecting them to shed some light on this case.
