The families of the 18 slain victims of the Lusikisiki massacre said that while they appreciated the government’s efforts in helping them honour the memories of their loved ones, they still want closure.
The Eastern Cape government is on Sunday morning holding a memorial service for the victims at the Lusikisiki College.
Thousands of community members are gathering there for the ceremony.
The families of the victims say they still want answers.
David King is an uncle to Ruth King, one of the victims.
“It does not say we appreciate. We are appreciating what the government has done, but we would like to find closure. We would like to know who has done this and for what reason, you see?”
He said the families remained stunned by this incident.
“We are drained. We are drained emotionally because this is one thing we never expected.”
