Fast rising SA rapper Lucasraps signs for Def Jam

LUCASRAPS finally got his long-awaited breakthrough.

Record label Def Jam Recordings Africa has announced he is its newest signee.

The 20-year-old, whose real name is Lucas Duncan Malong, is the label’s first signee for the year. He joins the likes of Nasty C, Nadia Nakai, Cassper Nyovest, Boity, Tshego, Tellaman and a few others who joined the new label last year.

Speaking to SunBuzz, Lucasraps said: “Before signing, I had an understanding of who is going to be the best family to work with when it comes to distributing my music. So then I decided to go with this record company because we share the same goals and had the same vision.”

He said being part of the label has been great. “So far, I’m seeing changes that are happening in my life. And, none of those changes would’ve happened without them and their backing,” he said.

Lucasraps, who was born in Cape Town and raised in Durban, is working on his debut album titled 031 to the World that’ll drop on 1 October.

“I’ve been working on this project from 2018, so people can imagine how much time was put into it. I took all the time to focus on how I need to articulate a full picture of Lucas in an audio form,” said the rapper.

Lucasraps released a single titled Slide two weeks ago and it’s available on all digital platforms.
