Losing Lerato earns 6 nominations at US film festival

Local film Losing Lerato has earned 6 nominations at a US film festival, the Idyllwild International Festival Of Cinema in California. The film tells the story of a young black man who takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping his daughter afterlife, the law, and the woman he once loved separates him from his child.

The film’s lead actor and producer Kagiso Modupe shared that exciting news on social media. He said in part; “I’m excited and honoured to announce to that #LosingLerato has been nominated and will be screening at the @IdyFest in Palm Springs, California next month. Losing Lerato received 6 nominations which include best actor for Kagiso Modupe and best supporting actor for Thato Molamu, best actress for Samela Tyelbooi and best supporting actress for Tshimollo Modupe, best director for Sanele Zulu and best cinematography for Gavin Sterrley.

In other news – Rasta’s painting of Joseph Shabalala could sell for R150k

CONTROVERSIAL artist Rasta hopes to sell the late Joseph Shabalala painting for R150 000. According to Ladysmith Black Mambazo manager Xolani Majozi, the painting will be sold at an exhibition due to be held later in the year.

Rasta said: “I started working on it on Friday and finished in the early hours of the morning. When I paint, I normally use cardboard but I used leather for this one, as Shabalala was a Zulu man and this was to express his rich culture. Read more
