Longwe Twala placed under house arrest after contempt of court

Longwe Twala placed under house arrest after contempt of court! The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has extended the bail of Longwe Twala, son of renowned music producer Chicco Twala, placing him under house arrest from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the conclusion of his trial.

The decision follows charges of contempt of court stemming from Longwe’s absence during a hearing on October 25 regarding allegations of theft from his father’s studio.

Explanation for Court Absence

Longwe Twala informed the court that his absence was due to illness, stating he had instructed his aunt to notify the court about his condition. Magistrate Abdul Khan deemed the explanation reasonable during Longwe’s appearance on Monday, adding that no evidence suggested intentional non-compliance.

A warrant of arrest was issued after Longwe failed to appear in court as scheduled, and he was subsequently rearrested on November 26 in Diepkloof, Soweto. Despite his rearrest, the court ruled that Longwe had adhered to his bail conditions by remaining at the address he had provided.

“Because he was found at the address he gave, it cannot be concluded that he violated his bail conditions,” said Magistrate Khan.

House Arrest and Additional Conditions

As part of his extended bail conditions, Longwe will continue residing at his aunt’s home in Diepkloof under strict house arrest. During this period, he is prohibited from consuming drugs or alcohol and may be subjected to random substance tests.

The magistrate warned Longwe about the consequences of violating these conditions.

“If the police come there and look for you and you breach the conditions, you will be arrested,” Khan cautioned.

Additionally, Longwe is forbidden from entering his father’s premises during the course of the trial.

Allegations of Theft

The charges against Longwe and his younger brother, Sello, stem from a complaint lodged by their father, Chicco Twala, who accused them of stealing recording equipment valued at over R200,000. The incident reportedly occurred while Chicco was abroad on business.

Apart from recording equipment, the stolen items allegedly included clothing, household items, and other valuables.

This is not the first time Longwe has faced legal trouble involving theft. In 2020, Chicco handed him over to the Diepkloof police station following allegations that Longwe had stolen a cellphone.

Court Proceedings and Future Dates

The theft case, which has drawn public and media attention due to Longwe’s connection to the Twala family, was postponed to February 25, 2025.

Background and Family Dynamics

The case highlights ongoing tensions between Longwe and his father, Chicco Twala, a prominent figure in South Africa’s music industry. The strained relationship has been marked by previous incidents, including Chicco’s public acknowledgment of Longwe’s struggles with substance abuse and criminal behavior.

While Chicco has repeatedly expressed a desire to hold Longwe accountable for his actions, he has also voiced concerns about his son’s well-being and the challenges of dealing with personal and familial issues in the public eye.

Public Reaction

The case has sparked debate about accountability, family dynamics, and rehabilitation, with many calling for Longwe to face the consequences of his actions while receiving support to address the underlying issues contributing to his behavior.

Conclusion

As the trial progresses, Longwe’s compliance with his bail conditions and house arrest will be closely monitored. The case serves as a reminder of the complex intersections between legal responsibility, familial relationships, and public scrutiny. For now, all eyes remain on the court’s next steps in February 2025.
