Bheki Cele urges continued lockdown compliance

The final Operation Okae Molao raid under lockdown level two took place in Ekurhuleni Saturday night.

Police Minister Bheki Cele says officers confiscated over 30 illegal firearms.

“The operation is to try and reduce crime here at Ekurhuleni, it is a place that is giving us a lot of crime,” Cele said.

The minister says Thokoza, Tembisa, and Katlehong have been identified as crime hotspots in Ekurhuleni.

Cele is calling on South Africans to continue complying with regulations, as the country moves to alert level one from midnight.

“This operation is in every district to make sure that nobody finds a way to bypass the roadblocks,” the minister said.

“We just want the compliance, we are hoping that people will comply.”
