Job description:

To ensure that effective financial and internal controls are in place at the locations. To provide business advice and guidance to the site management teams that will assist in the achievement of the business strategic and operational goals. To support the Division Controller and ensure Finance Department resources are effectively managed to support the broader business. Management of all local financial accounting and statutory reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities (Main Duties):

Work with the Division Controller to roll out consistent application of Company accounting methods and policies.
Provide information to the Division Controller to ensure effective financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Provide a business partner service to location management by providing input and information to support the efficient management of the location.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial results including financial statements, midyear reviews, forecasts, budgeting and all cost and financial reporting.
Ensure location assets are safeguarded and have adequate processes in place to support proper financial reporting.
Prepare sales data and analysis as required to support BUM/ GM.
Process and monitor all capital expenditure justifications and submissions.
Ensure all internal controls including SOX are in place, maintained and updated as necessary to meet company requirements; participate and implement actions following audits.
Provide liaison and coordination between divisions, FSUs, ESSC and Sales Company.
Ensure implementation and compliance to all established policies and procedures within Company.
Management and reconciliation of all aspects of the balance sheet and related controls.
Manage the processing of treasury, pension, payroll and travel expenses activities
Maintenance of Company Secretarial documentation
Working with Shared Services to ensure all invoices and payments are processed and approved in accordance with corporate policy in a timely manner.
Administer commercial insurance programme and property portfolio Controlling segregation of duties for maintaining bank account information and other sensitive data processes.
Ensure that administration of corporate card programme is adhered to.
Review automated transactions and standardize data input to the general ledger.
Preparation of Financial Accounts, Corporation Tax, and VAT returns in line with legal requirements.
Liaise with external auditors and revenue officials in accordance with legal requirements.
Ensure accounting practises are carried out in accordance with current US GAAP standards as well as local accounting standards and policies (FAR, CAS).
Assist on special projects as required, supporting both the Finance team and the wider business in improved financial data and analysis.
Internal/External vacancy Note
Actively manages the development of the finance team ensuring that each team member has the appropriate skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their job role through use of Talent Central, HPT’s etc.
Management of AP, AR processes as required
Deputise for the Division Controller as required

Key Accountabilities:

Ensures that all accounting data and reporting requirements for the location are completed in a timely and accurate manner to corporate deadlines. This includes budgeting, planning and forecasting processes as well as regular cadence calls.
Ensures that adequate internal controls are in place to ensure that business assets are safeguarded including placement of commercial insurance programme.
Provides timely and accurate data and analysis as required for management teams and Division Controller.
Control of all treasury and bank-related activities. Engagement with internal treasury function as well as external bank relationships.
Supports the Division Controller in the successful completion of the Annual Budgeting process.
Engage with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
Development of all members of the finance team to the required level.

This role provides leadership for a small team based in South Africa, as well as supporting Mozambique. The role will also act as the key contact for South African financial authorities
Monthly creditor recons & Vale debtor’s recon
Mozambique bank payments including payment of local salaries
Processing journal entries and month-end transactions as well as Supplier invoices on Pastel.
Maintaining asset register, & AFE’s for Limitada.
Monthly uploads (SAP excel worksheet file)
Monthly GL recon review/processing and sign-off
Managing quarterly stock counts on site
Monthly calculation and payment of IVA
Annual calculation, preparation of tax pack with supporting schedules and payment of income tax and provisional tax.
Year-end preparation (Limitada – i.e. December)
Coordinate Arrangements for Audits/Auditors (compilation of AFS and December year-end)

Decision Making Authority:

Provide guidance and support to the business to ensure compliance to corporate policies.
Ensure that budgets are set, managed and controlled at the location.

Planning & Organisation:

Prioritises assignments and deadlines to ensure that all regular accounting data and business reporting needs are achieved.
Provides timely financial analysis to site management teams for business ad hoc projects.
Support the preparation of Annual Budgeting process.
Carries out business audits as required – internal, peer to peer and external audit.
Submission of reports to external bodies including payroll tax, VAT and corporation tax.

Job Holder Requirements (skills, knowledge & experience):

Qualified to degree level in a business/finance qualification.
Completion of professional finance qualification – CIMA or ACCA.
Previous experience of cost accounting within a manufacturing environment to defined
procedures, rules, and policies.
Experience of a standard costing environment.
Internal/External vacancy Note
Previous experience of working across borders in a multi-national organization is an advantage.
Knowledge and understanding of US GAAP, SOX, IFRS, etc
Previous experience of audit processes is desirable.
Strong working knowledge of systems used within the finance team ie JD Edwards, MS Office (particularly Excel) is required.
Strong communications and interpersonal skills which allow the job holder to influence and persuade at all levels within the organization.
Previous experience of managing a team is preferred.
Strong commercial focus with good analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative either alone or as part of the team working to and achieving strict timescales.
Ability and willingness to continually expand and develop professional financial knowledge.
