Embattled power utility Eskom has warned that it may need to implement load-shedding on Thursday night. In a statement, Eskom said the power system was “under stress” and that diesel generators were being used to meet demand.
“While we have adequate emergency reserves to supplement capacity during the day, we may need to implement load-shedding [Thursday] evening,” the statement read.
Eskom said they will continue to give periodic updates on what South Africans can expect. Load-shedding was last implemented on 10 January. Eskom had the following tips for consumers
Set air-conditioners’ average temperature at 23 degrees. Use the cold water tap rather than using the geyser every time. Set your swimming pool pump cycle to run twice a day, three hours at a time for optimal energy use. At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch. Avoid standby or sleep mode.
