No load shedding expected over weekend – Eskom

No load shedding was expected over the weekend, Eskom said on Friday night.

“In spite of the generation system remaining constrained, we do not expect to implement load shedding this weekend. Unplanned breakdowns remain just below the 11 000MW mark.

“Eskom is currently utilising emergency generation reserves to supplement supply. We remind South Africans, however, that the generation system remains vulnerable and unpredictable, and as such, there is a possibility that we may have to implement load shedding at short notice should there be an unexpected change in the generation system performance,” the utility said via an emailed statement.

It said unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 10 809MW at 4.33 pm on Friday afternoon and planned maintenance outages were at 5 240MW.

Eskom has not implemented load shedding since February 22.

“We remind South Africans that there is a possibility of increased load shedding as we are conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health,” said the organization.
