Family of Lizwi who died in a car accident alongside Malome Vector begs for donations

The family of the upcoming musician Lizwi Wokuqala, who tragically died in a car crash alongside Lesotho-born musician Malome Vector, is facing financial difficulties with burial arrangements.

The family has appealed to the public for donations to transport his body from the crash site to his hometown of Inanda, north of Durban, for burial.

Lizwi Wokuqala, whose real name was Lizwilenkosi Mtshali, lost his life in a collision on the N8 in Bloemfontein, Free State, on Wednesday, 24 July.

He was poised to release his EP, Gamelihle, on Friday, 9 August.

The family hopes to conduct the funeral in Durban on Sunday, 4 August, but currently lacks the necessary funds.

Family spokesperson Stanley Khoza expressed the family’s and the creative industry’s concerns during a meeting about the burial, highlighting the absence of funds for the funeral arrangements.

“He was just beginning his career in the industry and hadn’t yet earned enough to cover his own funeral expenses, though he had already gained recognition as a promising talent,” Khoza said.

“Any help or contribution will be greatly appreciated. The planned day for the funeral is Sunday, provided all efforts are successful. We are accepting donations of any amount. We have set up a bank account in our mother’s name for this purpose.”

Khoza noted that the funds would cover expenses for the coffin, undertaker, sound system, and food, estimating a total cost of around R100,000.

He added that Lizwi Wokuqala had been living with Malome Vector in Joburg and was closely associated with him in his work.

The donation account details are with Standard Bank, account holder Bawelile Sishi (deceased’s mother), and the account number is 20 584 287 9.
