Panyaza Lesufi welcomes SACP’s criticism of the ANC, labels debate as healthy

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has welcomed criticism levelled against the ANC by the South African Communist Party (SACP). Speaking on the sidelines of the Gauteng ANC Renewal Workshop, on Gauteng’s East Rand, Lesufi said debates are essential in forming strategy.
Tensions rose within the Tripartite Alliance following comments by SACP General-Secretary Solly Mapaila that the ANC had “sold out” by entering into the GNU and cozying up to white monopoly capital. ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula took exception to the statements. However, Lesufi says the tensions are not necessary.
“The debates the discussions and the issues that are deposited by the SACP about where we are and what we need is something that I personally welcome. You can’t ban debate. You can’t ban discussions because we exist purely on the battle of ideas. So, if you think your idea is superior, present it on the table and allow it to be tested. Furthermore, allow others to deposit their ideas, ” he said.
