Lerato Sengadi shocked after she discovers HHP’s will excludes her

Mzansi’ late rapper, HHP, has left his customary wife, Lerato Sengadi out of his will.
It is alleged that the award-winning muso precluded Lerato from his multimillion-rand will and bequeathed all his wealth to his only son, Leano. According to Sowetan Live, Leano lives with his maternal grandmother in Johannesburg and frequently visits his father’s parents in Mahikeng, North West where he was buried last year. HH, whose real name is Jabulani Tsambo committed suicide at his home in Weltevreden Park in Johannesburg last September. Leano’s mother, Lerato Khanye, also died, of natural causes at Helen Joseph Hospital, a month after HHP’s untimely death. Sengadi had declined to comment on the reading of the will.

I have no comment on the matter, really I have nothing to say,” said Sengadi. The Tsambo family spokesman, Nkululeko Ncana confirmed that HHP had left everything to his son, Leano. “I can confirm that Jabulani has bestowed everything to Leano,” said Ncana. This really affected Sengadi, in fact it was a second blow to her. She was first declared a customary wife by the Johannesburg High Court after she obtained a court interdict to stop the family from burying the muso without her consent.

A well-known record company executive revealed the news that Sengadi was excluded from HHP’s will. Unfortunately the executive did not want to be named for fear of reprisal. The executive said that the will includes HHP’s multimillion-rand house, image rights, a multimillion-rand music catalogue and royalties from his television and radio stations.

“The battle between Lerato [Sengadi] and the family is not only about whether or not she is the customary wife, it is about the estate as well. If Lerato wins this case at the Supreme Court of Appeal, she is, according to the law, entitled to 50 percent of his estate,” said the executive.

However a legal and cultural expert, Professor Mathole Motshekga said if proven that Sengadi was indeed the customary wife, it would be unfair for her not to benefit from the estate. He added that he may not have all the information, but it could be alleged that they were married and had fights and because he was annoyed with her at the time, he could have written a will and excluded her from it.

Lerato Sengadi, widow of late hip-hop legend, HHP, looks to have a long road to go before she will truly be recognised as his wife. According to an ex-business partner of HHP’s, Lerato isn’t eligible to accept his Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAMAs.
