State given final remand to obtain medical documents in EFF’s Leigh-Ann Mathys assault case
The State has been given a final remand to obtain medical documents in the assault case involving an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) senior leader, Leigh-Ann Mathys.
Mathys is accused of assaulting a fellow EFF member, Busisiwe Seabe.
The incident allegedly took place on 9 December during the EFF’s youth voter registration bash at Gillooly’s Farm.
Mathys, the EFF’s Gauteng election coordinator, made her second appearance at the Edenvale Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
It was yet another brief appearance in the dock for her.
Unlike in her previous court appearance, Mathys was not accompanied by any of the EFF’s senior branch.
The publication understands the party wanted to deal with the matter in-house but attempts at mediation between Mathys and Seabe failed.
The State prosecutor told the court they are still waiting for the J88 document that details the injuries Seabe suffered during the alleged assault.
According to a police statement, Mathys allegedly grabbed Seabe by the neck and pushed her to the ground during a confrontation.
The matter has been adjourned to 16 February.
