Legal expert: Jacob Zuma’s private prosecution bid holds no legal basis

Legal expert William Booth says the attempts by former president Jacob Zuma to have his successor, Cyril Ramaphosa, privately prosecuted hold no legal basis.

He says the contents of Zuma’s statement calling for the president to be charged are misleading.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa has rejected that bid and he has given Zuma until Monday to withdraw the summons.

Zuma on Thursday said he is prosecuting Ramaphosa privately.

He is accusing the president of being an accessory after the fact in crimes allegedly committed by State Prosecutor Billy Downer.
