Lebohang Maboe set for CAF Champions League debut

Maboe has been registered for the Champions League following his move from Maritzburg United and they will be hoping he can play a part in keeping their chances of reaching the knockout phase alive.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe is set to make his CAF Champions League when the 2016 winners take on reigning champions Wydad Casablanca on Friday.

Maboe, who was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that played in the Cosafa Cup a few months ago, will be playing in continental club football for the first time in his career.

“Yes, we’ve registered him. He is available for us,” Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed to KickOff.com.

Another big plus for Sundowns is the return of Andile Jali from injury. The former Orlando Pirates midfielder came on as a substitute in Sundowns’ 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Denis Onyango is also available for Sundowns for the crucial encounter. Lyle Lakay, meanwhile, cannot be registered for the competition he is cup-tied. He played for Cape Town City in the Confederation Cup earlier this year.

Sundowns, who are second in Group C on five points, leave for Casablanca on Monday. Bottom of the table AS Togo-Port will visit third-placed Horoya in Guinea in the other group match on Friday.
