His death was announced by his family through a statement, revealing that the iconic artist died on Sunday, 18 July, at his home town of Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

The 61-year-old guitarist and composer was best known for being part of the musical group Spirits Rejoice, alongside Duke Makasi, George Tyefumani and Sipho Gumede.

He was also part of other groups including the famous Thetha, which became the backing band on the Shell Road to Fame competition. He was in the group alongside Bakithi Kumalo, Vusi Khumalo, Wings Segale, Bushy Seatlholo, Khaya Mahlangu and Bongani Mdunge.

His musical footprints are in the recordings of top artists such as McCoy Mrubata, Letta Mbulu and Siphokazi Mohapi.

They embarked on a London tour, including at The Barbican Theatre. This production toured Mzansi and was featured for a week at the State Theatre during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

His last big gig was at Ebubeleni Virtual last December, where he was part of the big band from Gqeberha that backed all the featured artists.
