Latto’s New Collab With Jung Kook Goes Nuclear And Shatters Spotify Records

Latto has broken multiple Spotify records with “Seven,” her new upbeat collaborative track with Jung Kook — listen to it below. For starters, on Saturday (July 15) Chart Data reported that the “Put It on da Floor” rapper and BTS singer’s new song debuted at No. 1 on the global Spotify chart with 15.995 million streams.

“Seven” broke the record for the biggest opening day for a collaboration in the platform’s chart history and became the biggest global Spotify chart streaming debut for a song by a K-Pop act since BTS’s 2021 record “Butter.”

“Butter” had 11.042 million filtered global streams on its release day, according to Variety.

Also, while Latto nabbed the biggest streaming debut for any rapper in global Spotify history, Jung Kook became the first K-Pop act to go No. 1 in U.S. Spotify chart history and the first Korean soloist in history to debut in the top spot on the global Spotify chart.

Latto celebrated her individual feat by shouting out to BTS’ fan base for the love and recognition of the single. “S/O to the Armypots [casino slot emoji, bunny emoji, celebration face emoji, bottle pop emoji],” she said.

In the video for “Seven,” which was released on Friday (July 14), Jung Kook sings his heart out and goes through various trials and tribulations to prove his undying love for his significant other.

From an earthquake during an intimate dinner in the opening scene to lying on a stretcher in a street and being alive at his own funeral wake, Jung Kook isn’t willing to let his affection go to waste for his leading lady.

As for Latto, she makes an appearance in the funeral scene wearing all-Black and spitting her verse as Jung Kook arises from the casket he’s in to the dismay of his love interest.

“Tightly take control, tightly take his soul/ Take your phone and put it in the camera roll (Uh)/ Leave them clothes at the door/ What are you waitin’ for?/ Better come and hit ya goals,” Latto raps.

Jung Kook eventually wins the attention of his leading lady towards the end of the video as they walk side-by-side in the rain.

Prior to the release of “Seven,” Latto came under fire because of derogatory and stereotypical tweets she made towards people of Asian descent from 2015 and 2016. While none still appear on her Twitter account, screenshots of the alleged old tweets are currently doing the rounds online.

In one, Latto allegedly wrote: “You be cooking cats and dogs?” followed by what appears to be Chinese gibberish, an emoji of a Chinese man and a bowl of soup. On another, she allegedly replied to an Asian fan: “Are you asking me if I care ling ling?”

That backlash arrived just days after Latto threatened violence against a fan when someone in the crowd threw something at her during a show.

“You’ll get your ass beat,” Latto raps in the clip as she dances to her own song at Rolling Loud Germany. “Throw it again. Throw it again. I’ll beat your ass. Throw it again.”

However, she doesn’t plan on doing music forever. In a June interview with Cosmopolitan, Latto revealed that her plans for the future go beyond just making music.

“I want to get in my acting bag because I see myself going out like Rihanna,” the Atlanta rapper explained. “I don’t see myself doing music forever.”

She added: “Maybe it has to do with the fact that I’ve been doing it for so long already. Sometimes you just want more. I just did my first little acting gig the other day and I fell in love with that. I like more serious roles.”
