Ramaphosa admits government has been slow in land redistribution

President Cyril Ramaphosa has asked the KwaMkhwanazi community in northern KwaZulu-Natal not to disappoint government.

He was speaking at the handover of more than 4000 hectares of land in KwaDlangezwa.

Ramaphosa conceded that government has been slow in its land restitution and redistribution process.

He told the community that land is central to economic emancipation and freedom.
Ramaphosa said land redistribution will ensure social and economic security.

“Our struggle was not only for the vote. Our struggle was for economic empowerment and economic empowerment comes about when people get assets. When they have their own thing in their hands, that is economic empowerment. So today you have assets in your hand and you have operating assets you have assets that are earning income and because you have those assets, we as Government than feel even more stronger to support you and in this regard, we will assist you with post-settlement packages,” he said.
