Miss SA 2021 Lalela Mswane means business

NEWLY crowned Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane has been in office for less than a week, and has already proven that she means business, literally.

Mswane said she was planning to tackle unemployment through teaching young kids entrepreneurial skills, with the use of smartphones.

On Friday during her first public engagement, she visited Malapa Motsetse Foundation Primary School in Westbury, Joburg.

Interacting with pupils, she said: “I aim to impart entrepreneurial skills to kids at school level because entrepreneurship is such a taboo subject when you’re young.Lalela Mswane1

“I think kids need to know that these things are at their fingertips, they don’t have to wait to be an employee, and that it is fulfilling to be an employer. We need to start empowering the young to believe in the power of entrepreneurship.”

She added that the youth needed the right skills to meet the changing needs of the world of work.

“STEM is up there with the most important subjects needed. I have made unemployment the cornerstone of all the causes I care for because it not only affects our youth, but also the source of many social ills prevalent in South Africa.

“It is now my duty, as Miss SA, to ensure that I start the conversation of unemployment among our youth and seek meaningful solutions that will have long-lasting effects towards its rebate.”

order to assist them to create their own employment opportunities by means of entrepreneurial skills.

“And in so doing, they will be empowered to be self-sufficient and secure their own economic futures. I neither take the magnitude of the task lightly nor for granted because I know unemployment is a complex issue. But, action towards its reduction is necessary today, more than ever. Let us get ready to create and build healthy and sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities, take ownership of and shape our own futures.”
