Khomotso (26) and Mantsana (26) both Maimela died reported after they had jumped from a speeding a white bakkie when the driver who had given them a lift didn’t stop at their destination.
But the heartbroken families of the deceased say the bodies were dumped at the road for a foul play and demand answers from three survivors.
Samuel Maimela (49) Mantsana’s father said it was sad that they had buried their loved ones without closure of what happened to their children but hoping that the results of a postmortem will tell what killed them.
“As families, we managed to speak to one survivor a girl from our village she is still telling us that they jumped off the speeding bakkie. We have left everything in police hands.”
“It is still hard for us to accept their deaths and this burial process has honestly left us with broken hearts. It will be better for us to cope if we are told the truth.” he said.
Khomotso and Mantsana were allegedly with three other people coming from a tavern in Metz village near Sekororo outside Tzaneen in Limpopo when they got a lift to their homes.
Three people survived with injuries while both cousins didn’t make it.
Solly Maimela the uncle added that both families should have buried more of their members today because they had planned and celebrate Reconciliation Day with their other sisters but it happened that they leave them behind.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said they are still investigating two cases of culpable homicide.
“With the information we have and according to the injuries the deceased sustained they fell from the car. If families have more information on the matter they are allowed to speak to the investigative officer,” he said.
Mojapelo is also appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the motorist to contact Colonel Hanyane Mathebula on 082 414 3309 or report to the nearest olive station.
