The Association of Regional Magistrates of Southern Africa (ARMSA) is rubbishing a statement that some magistrates lack a basic knowledge of rape laws.
Advocacy group Judges Matter says a worrying number of magistrates were found wanting during interviews with the Magistrates Commission.
But ARMSA says this is misleading and has the potential to destroy the public confidence.
Takalani Ratshibvumo from ARMSA said those who were to be interviewed are candidates to become regional magistrates and do not currently preside over rape matters.
