Drama as Labantwana Ama Uber hit owners Fight

A dispute over how royalties should be distributed fairly amongst the creatives and companies involved in the making and marketing of the hit song, ‘Labantwana Ama Uber,’ is getting ugly.

Owner of the hit song, Semi Tee, who is signed to Jozi Entertainment, a company that has a signed agreement with Universal Music (UMGSA), claims that Universal did not play any part in marketing the song.

According to Lebo Mlangeni of Jozi Entertainment, Universal did not carry out its task of marketing the song as per an agreement between the two. However, Universal is looking to get paid what is due to them.

“The problem we are faced with here is that it has now come a time where the royalties of the song need to be distributed fairly. I spoke with Universal Music trying to find out from them what did they do to market the song as per our agreement,” said Lebo.

Despite having had a meeting with UMGSA, the music company was still unable to provide feedback or a report on the growth of the song or the role it played in marketing the track.

Lebo continued by saying: “At the moment I did not find any evidence of the work they did. My company and I have done majority of the work.”

This is not the first time the Uber song has been hit with some controversy. On Twitter, users were convinced that they found the original mastermind behind the track. They noticed the similarities between the two songs’ lyrics therefore accusing Semi Tee and his team of stealing the song.
