6 000 KZN students to have their debt cleared

Students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds in KwaZulu-Natal will get a reprieve from paying their student fees.

Over 6,000 students in the province will have their debt cleared through a partnership between the government and the Moses Kotane Institute.

Student debt stands at over R16-billion and KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development MEC, Siboniso Duma, says the move will help graduates battling to find employment because of their debt.

The Mosea Kotane Institute says the initiative will help students build their skills.

MUT says the funds will bring much-needed relief to poor students.

Those who are funded by NSFAS won’t qualify for the initiative, but students who aren’t are encouraged to apply.
